Don't Forget! Daylight Saving Time Begins
March 14, 2010

March
7, 2010
Greetings
in the wonderful Name of Jesus! We
are certainly thankful for God’s bountiful blessings.
Those who serve God and read the Word of God regularly can see the events
of the end time happening right before our very eyes!
Jesus spelled it out in the 24th Chapter of Matthew.
Not only are natural disasters – earthquakes, floods, devastation,
famines – happening, but perverse religious beliefs are being propagated on
every hand and wars are still being fought, with nation rising against nation.
We need to be aware that all of these things are pointing to the soon
return of our Lord. He tells us in
Matthew 24:44 “Therefore
be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
We must keep ourselves ready by living for the Lord and separating
ourselves from everything that is ungodly. Serious
times call for serious living.

PROTECTION OF TRUTH
1 Corinthians 3:19 “For
the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh
the wise in their own craftiness.” The
enemy uses the world's wisdom as a very effective weapon. This false
wisdom has permeated our society to the point where it's difficult, if not
impossible, to avoid being attacked. Yet the attacks can be so subtle we
often don't even realize we're hit until we've wandered far from God's path.
Since this is
such a powerful and deceptive weapon, we need the ability to recognize the
attack and protect against harm. Fortunately, God has provided a sure way
for both.
Psalms 40:11 “Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy
lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.”
In the financial world, there is always concern about counterfeit.
Ever since the first currency, there have been those who make and distribute
unauthorized money. The absolute best way to recognize these counterfeits
is to know the fine details of the real thing. When the truth is fully
known, the counterfeit is easily revealed.
God has given an
unchanging standard against which all others must be judged. His standard
is His Word - and His Word is TRUTH! Jesus taught a message of truth for
His entire earthly ministry. Nearly one hundred times in the gospels Jesus
began His message with, "I tell you the truth."
Jesus even
referred to Himself as the complete manifestation of truth; John 14:6 “Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.” And if
properly applied, the truth will never be a burden: John 8:31-32 “Then
said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then
are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free.”
Paul said in the last days people will be deceived and perish. 2
Thessalonians 2:10 “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
Notice that our protection is not simply
learning about the truth; rather, it requires a love - a passionate desire to
know and apply the truth of His Word. We must allow His truth to become
entwined in ALL we do, say, and think.
Let's pray that
God would reveal His truth more and more every day. Let's commit to
learning His truths and applying them as the absolute standard in our life.
The enemy will continue to attack with his weapons of deception, but as we
remain in Christ and firmly hold to His Word we can be assured we have the
protection of truth.

A FEW THINGS TO THINK
ABOUT
1.
Anger is a condition in which the tongue, works faster than the mind.
2. You can't change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying over
the future.
3. Love ... and you shall be loved.
4. God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.
5. All people smile in the same language.
6. A hug is a great gift, one size fits all. It can be given for any occasion
and it's easy to exchange.
7. Everyone needs to be loved, especially when they do not deserve it.
8. The real measure of a man's wealth is what he has invested in eternity.
9. Laughter is God's sunshine.
10. Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it.
11. It's important for parents to live the same things they teach.
12. Thank God for what you have, TRUST GOD for what you need.
13. If you fill your heart with regrets of yesterday and the worries of
tomorrow, you have no today to be thankful for.
14. Happy memories never wear out... Relive them as often as you want.
15. Home is the place where we grumble the most, but are often treated the
best.
16. Man looks at outward appearance but the Lord looks within.
17. The choice you make today will usually affect tomorrow.
18. Take time to laugh for it is the music of the soul.
19. If anyone speaks badly of you, live so none will believe it.
20. Patience is the ability to idle your motor, when you feel like
stripping your gears.
21. Love is strengthened by working through conflicts together.
22. The best thing parents can do for their children, is to love each
other.
23. Harsh words break no bones but they do break hearts.
24. To get out of a difficulty, one usually must go through it.
25. We take for granted the things that we should be giving thanks for.
26. Love is the only thing that can be divided, without being diminished.
27. Happiness is enhanced by others but does not depend upon others.
28. You are richer today if you have laughed, given or forgiven.
29. For every minute you are angry with someone, you lose 60 seconds of
happiness that you can never get back.
30. Do what you can, for who you can, with what you have, and where you
are.
31.The best gifts to give:
To your friend, loyalty;
To your enemy, forgiveness;
To your boss, service;
To a child, a good example;
To your parents, gratitude and devotion;
To your mate, love and faithfulness;
To all men and women, charity;
and To God, your life. – christianlifestories.com

have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have
placed in God's hands, that I still possess." – Martin Luther (1483-1546)

A MESSAGE OF TRUTH
Loving the truth of God is our
protection against the deceptive attacks of the enemy. By knowing the
truth, we can recognize the lies of "worldly wisdom," and continue
along God's path without painful detours into the weeds. But we must be
willing to faithfully apply the truth in all areas of our life and share the
truth with others at every opportunity.
Prior to the
final invasion of
Jerusalem
by the Babylonians, God spoke through Jeremiah to warn the people of their
coming destruction and their need to repent. Needless to say, this was not
a popular message and Jeremiah was not a welcomed prophet. But there were
other self-proclaimed prophets who provided a much more comfortable message.
These prophets made people feel good by telling them what they wanted to hear -
telling them they could continue down their same path without fear. But
God warned about falling into their seductive trap of false security.
Jeremiah
23:16-17 “Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets
that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own
heart, and not out of the mouth
of the LORD. They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye
shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination
of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.”
The ministry of encouragement is a vital part of our Christian walk.
We all face valleys and need encouragers to provide a lift. And since we
know there are many others who are walking through valleys today, we should
encourage in every way possible; "Encourage one another daily, as long as
it is called Today!" (Hebrews 3:13).
However, in our
zeal to encourage and build up, we must never compromise by presenting a message
which falls short of the absolute truth. We must never present an
"all is well" message if all is not well. When God's children
wander from His path and plant themselves amongst the weeds, there must be
someone willing to "gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them
repentance". (2 Timothy 2:25 “In
meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give
them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.”)
Our task as an
encourager is not always to make others comfortable or to deliver a pleasing
message; we are not called to tell people "what their itching ears want to
hear" (2 Timothy 4:3 “For
the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own
lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”).
Rather, our task is to "speak the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15 “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things,
which is the head, even
Christ.”). We never help
when we make someone comfortable with sin.
The absolute best
encouragement we can give is to help someone have a right relationship with
their Heavenly Father through a surrendered faith in Jesus Christ. God's
truth can and will set us free (John 8:32 “And
ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”)!
Let's encourage in every way possible; but let's make certain we always
encourage with a message of truth! - Steve Troxel - God's Daily Word Ministries

FUNNY, ISN’T IT?
Funny how a $100
"looks" so big when you take it to church, but so small when you take
it to the mall.
Funny how long it takes to
serve God for an hour, but how quickly a team plays 60 minutes of basketball.
Funny how long a couple of
hours spent at church is, but how short they are when watching a movie.
Funny how we can't think of
anything to say when we pray, but don't have difficulty thinking of things to
talk about to a friend.
Funny how we get thrilled
when a baseball game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a sermon is
longer than the regular time.
Funny how hard it is to read
a chapter in the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling
novel.
Funny how people want to get
a front seat at any game or concert, but scramble to get a back seat at church
services.
Funny how we need 2 or 3
weeks advance notice to fit a church event into our schedule, but can adjust our
schedule for other events at the last moment.
Funny how hard it is for
people to learn a simple gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is
for the same people to understand and repeat gossip.
Funny how we believe what
the newspaper says, but question what the Bible says.
Funny how everyone wants to
go to heaven provided they do not have to believe, or think, or say, or do
anything. – christianlifestories.com

WHAT YOU SEE
1 Peter 4:8 “And
above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover
the multitude of sins.”
Here's a test. You've heard of tongue-twisters . . . well here's an
eye-twister (which may be difficult for those whose primary language isn't
English). See if you can read the following:
"Aoccdrnig
to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the
ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat
ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll
raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deosn't raed ervey
lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh?"
(Now I know why I
am such a poor proof reader—especially of my own writing.)
The mind does a
similar thing in other areas of life. That is, we see things not the way they
are, but the way we are. For instance, if I am a negative person, I will see
negative things in what others do—things that may not even be there—and be
critical about them. If I am a supersensitive person, I will read into what
others say or do and overreact—not on the basis of what they have said or
done, but on the basis of who and what I am. On the other hand, if I am a loving
person, I will overlook the petty faults in others and be accepting and
forgiving of them, for love does "cover a multitude of sins."
Indeed, what we
see is who we are or who we are is what we will see. – Dick Innes, Daily Encounter

THE
WHISPER OF GOD
1 Kings 19:11-12 “And
he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the
LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in
pieces the rocks before the LORD; but
the LORD was not in the wind:
and after the wind an earthquake; but
the LORD was not in the
earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was
not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”
The young man had lost his job and didn't know
which way to turn. So he went to see the old preacher.
Pacing about the preacher's study, the young man ranted
about his problem. Finally he clenched his fist and shouted, "I've begged
God to say something to help me. Tell me, Preacher, why doesn't God
answer?"
The old preacher, who sat across the room, spoke
something in reply --something so hushed it was indistinguishable. The young man
stepped across the room. "What did you say?" he asked.
The preacher repeated himself, but again in a tone as
soft as a whisper. So the young man moved closer until he was leaning on the
preacher's chair. "Sorry," he said. "I still didn't hear
you."
With their heads bent together, the old preacher spoke
once more. "God sometimes whispers," he said, "so we will move
closer to hear Him."
This time the young man heard and he understood. We all
want God's voice to thunder through the air with the answer to our problem.
But God's is the still, small voice... the gentle whisper.
Perhaps there's a reason. Nothing draws human focus
quite like a whisper. God's whisper means I must stop my ranting and move close
to Him, until my head is bent together with His. And then, as I listen, I will
find my answer. Better still, I find myself closer to God.

OUR
GOD IS ALWAYS THERE
Dick and Margaret were missionaries in a place caught up by an
invasion. Their story is told in a book entitled, Steel
in His Soul, The Dick Hillis Story. Dick developed a sickness and had to be
admitted into the hospital. It was at the worst time. Margaret was sad as she
watched her husband leave. Soon an army officer came with news. The enemy was
near. Everyone should evacuate. Margaret and her two children could not leave.
She stayed. She prayed. Early the next morning she ripped a page from her wall
calendar. It contained a Scripture: “What time I am afraid, I will trust in
thee” (Psalms 56:3).
The town emptied during the
day, but Margaret didn’t move. The next morning she again ripped a page from
her calendar. The new day’s Scripture read: “Thou, Lord hast not forsaken
them that seek thee” (Psalms 9:10).
The next day when she woke
she heard distant sounds of gunfire. She worried about finding food for her
hungry children. Someone came with a basket of eggs. Another person brought
milk. The calendar verse for the day: “I will nourish you and your little
ones” (Genesis 50:21).
The sounds of war grew
stronger and Margaret prayed for protection and deliverance. The next morning
she tore the page from her calendar. It read: “When I cry unto Thee, then
shall my enemies turn back” (Psalms 56:9).
The fighting came closer.
That night Margaret could not sleep. Danger was close. But, in the morning all
was calm. The army officer returned and knocked on her door. He told her in
amazement, “The enemy has retreated. It’s unbelievable!” No one could
understand it. Peace returned. Margaret glanced at her calendar and praised the
God that promises. – emailministry.org

THE
SOUND OF SILENCE "The
LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation
of the LORD. It is good for a man
that he bear the yoke in his youth. He
sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.
He putteth his mouth in the dust;if so be there may be hope."
Lamentations 3:25-29
Sometimes no
answer is an answer! When Herod
asked Jesus question after question, Jesus said nothing.
When Pilate asked Jesus where He was from, Jesus gave no answer.
To some, Jesus gave absolutely no response.
In Matthew
Chapter 11 when John the Baptist was in prison, he sent his disciples to ask
Jesus if He was the Messiah, and Jesus told them, "Go
and show John again those things which
ye do hear and see: The blind
receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf
hear, the dead are raised up, and
the poor have the gospel preached to them. And
blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me." Matthew 11:4-6
Others received a
response also, but not the one they were after:
Zechariah said to the angel: "Whereby
shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the
presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee and to show thee these glad
tidings. And, behold, thou shalt be
dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed,
because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their
season." Luke 1:18-20
Just because God
seems silent at times doesn't mean He isn't working.
Sometimes silence is "golden".
And the silence of God might just be speaking volumes!
"And
therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore
will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you:
for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for
him." Isaiah 30:18 –

A
LOVE STORY
Once upon a time, there was an
island where all the feelings lived; Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all the
others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island
would sink, so all repaired their boats and left.
Love wanted to
persevere until the last possible moment. When the island was almost sinking,
Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love
said "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered,
"No, I can't. There is a lot of silver in my boat. There is no place here
for you."
Love decided to
ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please
help me!" "I can't help you Love. You are all wet and might damage my
boat," Vanity answered.
Sadness was close
by so Love asked for help, "Sadness, let me go with you."
"Oh....Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself."
Happiness passed
by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called
her!
Suddenly there
was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt
so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder his name. When
they arrived at dry land, the elder went his own way.
Love realizing
how much he owed the elder, asked Knowledge, another elder. "Who helped
me?" "It was Time," Knowledge answered. "Time?" asked
Love. "But why did Time help me?" Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom
and answered, "Because, only Time is capable of understanding how great
Love is." - Author Unknown –

FLAME
OF LOVE
"I can master it,"
said the Ax. His blows fell heavy on the hard, strong steel. But each blow only
made his edge more blunt until he ceased to strike.
"Leave
it to me," said the Saw. With his relentless teeth, he worked back and
forth. But to his dismay, all of his teeth were worn out or broken off.
"Ha!"
said the Hammer. "I knew you could not do this. Let me show you how."
But with the very first blow, his head flew off, and the steel was unchanged.
"Shall I
try?" asked the Flame. And it curled itself gently around the strong, hard
steel, embraced it, and would not let it go. And the tough steel melted.
There are hearts
that are hard enough to resist the forces of wrath and the fury of pride. But
hard is the heart that can resist the warm flame of Love.
Matthew
13:15-17 “For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their
ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they
should see with their eyes, and
hear with their ears, and should
understand with their heart, and
should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For
verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those
things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those
things which ye hear, and have not heard them.” - Author

GOD KNOWS JUST WHAT WE
NEED
A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was
very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get
some medication for her daughter.
Upon returning to
her car she found that she had locked her keys in the car. She was in a hurry to
get home to her sick daughter. She didn't know what to do, so she called her
home and told the baby sitter what had happened and that she did not know what
to do.
The baby sitter
told her that her daughter was getting worse. She said, "You might find a
coat hanger and use that to open the door." The woman looked around and
found an old rusty coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground, possibly
by someone else who at some time or other had locked their keys in their car.
Then she looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use
this." So she bowed her head and asked God to send her some help.
Within five
minutes an old rusty car pulled up, with a dirty, greasy,
bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head. The
woman thought, "This is what you sent to help me?" But, she was
desperate, so she was also very thankful.
The man got out
of his car and asked her if he could help. She said,
"Yes, my daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I
locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this
hanger to unlock my car?"
He said,
"Sure". He walked over to the car, and in less than one minute the car
was opened.
She hugged the
man and through her tears she said, "Thank You So Much! You are a very nice
man."
The man replied,
"Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison yesterday. I was in
prison for car theft and have only been out less than 24 hours."
The woman hugged
the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud, "Oh, Thank you God!
You even sent me a Professional!"
God may not
always send us what we expect, but He will always send us what we need. It's up
to us to have the wisdom to recognize the difference and be thankful. - Author

LISTEN TO THE QUIET
Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
When the electric power went out recently, I was impressed by how quiet
it was. We live with continual background noise. Indoors we have the
sounds of air conditioning, washers, dryers, TVs, computers, telephones, fax
machines, answer machines, stereos, and kids. Outdoors are edgers,
chainsaws, leafblowers, planes, trains, insects, birds, animals, cars and cell
phones.
We have all kinds of noise inside our heads, too. Past tapes, what
others have said and done, things we have done or told ourselves. And what
about the noise our hearts make? They laugh, cry, remember, and talk to us too!
I don’t think of myself as somebody who leads a fast-paced life. That
is until I notice how long it takes me to relax and unwind. Getting
quiet doesn’t happen quickly for me. Sometimes I even have to
consciously work at it. Even David, songwriter extraordinaire, wise
warrior, and anointed King of Israel, needed to be reminded to “be still, and
know that I am God.”
It’s a noisy world. And we all need a quiet place in the midst of
all the noise. A safe place, where we can BE STILL, and hear the Lord.
He very much wants to tell us how much He loves us, and how unique and
special we are to Him, maybe give us our day’s marching orders.
Today, He has a safe place, somewhere we can go and listen to the
quiet. Maybe inside our mind and heart, or perhaps to a physical spot.
Journey there and see what wonderful surprises Jesus has planned for this
brand new day of Today that we’ve never seen before. - Sally I. Kennedy (sallyikennedy@bellsouth.net)

LIVING
FOR SELF OR GIVING OF SELF?
"And he said to them all, If any man will come after me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever
will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the world,
and
lose himself, or be cast away?"
Luke 9:23-25
The
world today is so infatuated and preoccupied with "self"!
And how contrary to the example and life-giving principles of our Lord
Jesus Christ. He came to bring life!
He revealed and demonstrated the principles of life.
He clearly taught that life is not to be found in living for
"self" but rather in giving of self in the service of God and others.
Happiness is not found in the pursuit of happiness.
Life is not found in the pursuit of life.
Both are found in a pursuit of God and His righteousness!
As Jesus said, "Blessed
are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled."
The end, or finished product, of our current emphasis on "self"
is not life, but disappointment and ultimately death!
If we would discover "true life" then we must pursue the things
of God.
". . . whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things
are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and it there be any praise, think on these things."
All we have or are that is worthwhile is the gift of God's pure grace!
And yet we are proud, self-centered, envious, and quarrelsome.
We often fight over God's good gifts rather than expressing our gratitude
in humility and sharing what we have been given with others.
When we think of how much we have taken from God's world, we should bow
our heads in guilt and shame, as we look at how little we give to His work.
"But this I say, He that soweth sparingly shall reap also
sparingly." May we count
and share our many blessings of God with those less fortunate than ourselves.

GOD
IS LOVE!

YOUR
HAND IN PRAYER
1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those
closest to you. They are the easiest to ones to remember. To pray for our loved
ones is, as C.S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."
2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct
and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and
wisdom for pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for
the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These
people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.
4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that
this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind
us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers
day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. And lastly comes our little finger, the smallest finger of all, which is
where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible
says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should
remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four
groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able
to pray for yourself more effectively.
When you find it
hard to get to sleep tonight; Just remember the homeless family who has no bed
to lie in. (Think about
Haiti
.)
When you find
yourself stuck in traffic; don't despair. There are people in this world for
whom driving is an unheard of privilege.
When you have a
bad day at work, think of the man who has been out of work for the last three
months.
When you despair
over a relationship gone bad, think of the person who has never known what it's
like to love and be loved in return.
When you grieve
the passing of another weekend, think of the woman in dire straits, working
twelve hours a day, seven days a week, for $15.00 to feed her family.
When your car
breaks down, leaving you miles away from assistance, think of the paraplegic who
would love the opportunity to take that walk.
When you notice a
new gray hair in the mirror, think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she
had hair to examine.
When you find
yourself at a loss, and pondering what is life all about, what is my purpose, be
thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.
When you find
yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or
insecurities, remember, things could be worse. You could be them. - Author

GRACE
Justice:
Getting what you deserve.
Mercy:
Not getting what you deserve. Grace:
Getting what you don't deserve.
Ephesians
2:8-9
“For by grace are ye
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Love reaching out
is affection. Love reaching up is adoration.
Love reaching down is grace. Amazing.
How sweet the sound. Grace. - Author Unknown - emailministry.org

LET
ME DO SOMETHING
This story comes from a Sunday School ministry in the part of
New York City
that has been rated the “most likely place to get killed.” The pastor Bill
Wilson himself has been stabbed twice, shot at, and a member of his team killed.
But he stays there, and not without controversy, ministers in Jesus’ name to
people the rest of the church has largely forgotten. The largest bus ministry in
America
is not in the suburbs, but in Hell’s Kitchen. Here’s a story in Bill’s
words:
“One Puerto Rican lady,
after getting saved in church, came to me with an urgent request. She didn’t
speak a word of English, so she told me through an interpreter, “I want to do
something for God, please.”
“I don’t know what you
can do,” I answered.
“Please, let me do
something,” she said in Spanish.
“Okay. I’ll put you on a
bus. Ride a different bus every week and just love the kids.”
So every week she rode a
different bus — we have 50 of them — and loved the children. She would find
the worst-looking kid on the bus, put him on her lap and whisper over and over
the only words she had learned in English: “I love you. Jesus loves you.”
After several months, she
became attached to one little boy in particular. “I don’t want to change
buses anymore. I want to stay on this one bus,” she said.
The boy didn’t speak. He
came to Sunday school every week with his sister and sat on the woman’s lap,
but he never made a sound. And each week she would tell him all the way to
Sunday school and all the way home, “I love you and Jesus loves you.”
One day, to her amazement,
the little boy turned around and stammered, “I-I love you, too.” Then he put
his arms around her and gave
her a big hug.
That was 2:30 on a Saturday
afternoon. At 6:30 that night, the boy was found dead in a garbage bag under a
fire escape. His mother had beaten him to death and thrown his body in the
trash.
“I
love you and Jesus loves you.” Those were some of the last words he heard in
his short life — from the lips of a Puerto Rican woman who could barely speak
English.
You — one person — can make a
difference. In Jesus’ name, let yourself get close enough to people who hurt.
Feel the pain. See the death. Feel the urgency. Take your stand between the
living and the dead.” - grantsgraceland.org/divine/archives/21

TOP
TEN REASONS TO BELIEVE IN THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
1. The
Credibility of Its Founder: (John
6:68-69) Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou
hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that
Christ, the Son of the living God.
2. Reliability
of Its Book: The
integrity of this historical and geographical record is supported by archeology.
The Bible continues to speak not only with spiritual power but with convincing
prophetic accuracy.
3. Explanations
for Life: It is the Christian faith
that reflects a caring attention to detail so evident in the species and
ecosystems of the natural world. It is Christ who clothed himself in our
humanity to feel what we feel and then to suffer and die in our place.
4. Its
Continuity with the Past: The
Christian faith offers continuity with our deepest ancestral roots. Those who
trust Christ are accepting the same Creator and Lord worshiped by Adam, Abraham,
and Solomon.
5. Its
Foundational Claim: The first
Christians were witnesses. They risked their lives to tell the World that with
their own eyes they had seen an innocent man die and then miraculously walk
among them 3 days later.
6. Its
Power to Change Lives: Not only were
the first disciples dramatically changed but so were their worst enemies. Paul
was transformed from a killer of Christians into one of their chief advocates.
(Galatians 1:11-24)
7. Its
Analysis of Human Nature: The Bible
says that society's real problems are problems of the heart. In an age of
information and technology, failures of character have scandalized institutions
of the family, religion, and the arts.
8. Its
View of Human Achievement: Generation
after generation has hoped for the best. We have conceived technologies that
will deliver us from the oppressive slavery of work. Yet we are as close as ever
to what the New Testament describes as the end times. (Matthew 24:5-31)
9. Its
Impact on Society: From roof tops to
necklaces to earrings, we see the sign of the cross, bearing visible witness to
Christ's death. Social relief agencies have been fueled by the direct or
residual values of The Bible.
10. Its
Offer of Salvation: No other faith
offers everlasting life as a gift to those who trust the One who has overcome
death for them. No other system offers assurance of forgiveness and adoption
into the family of God. -- Author Unknown- www.emailministry.org

YESTERDAY,
TODAY, AND TOMORROW
There are two days in every week that we should not worry about. Two
days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.
One is YESTERDAY, with its mistakes and cares, its faults, and blunders,
its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed, forever beyond our control.
All
the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot
undo a single act we performed. Nor can we erase a single word we’ve said.
Yesterday is gone!!
The other day
we shouldn’t worry about is TOMORROW with its impossible adversaries, its
burden, its hopeful promise and poor performance.
Tomorrow is
beyond our control. Tomorrow’s sun will rise either in splendor or behind a
bank of clouds - but it will rise. And until it does, we have no stake in
tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.
This leaves
only one day - TODAY. A person can
fight the battles of just one day. It is only when we add the burdens of
yesterday and tomorrow that we break down. It is not the experience of today
that drives people mad - it is the remorse for something that happened
yesterday, and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.
Let us
therefore, LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME. - grantsgraceland.org/divine/archives/230

A
good example is someone who knows the way,

GRASSHOPPERS AND
GIANTS
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants:
and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
Numbers 13:33
Moses
sent men into
Canaan
to see what it was like before all the Israelites entered the land. After
spying out the land, these men reported that it was a land "flowing with
milk and honey" (Numbers 13:27). That was the good news. The bad news was
that the people already living in the land were strong and their cities were
walled. Caleb, a man after God's own heart, had also seen these so-called
obstacles, but immediately replied, "Let us go up at once, and possess it;
for we are well able to overcome it" (Numbers 13:30). The other men, not
agreeing with Caleb, argued, "And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak,
which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so
we were in their sight" (Numbers 13:33).
When obstacles
stand in your way, are you like Caleb ready to overcome anything? Or are you
like the other men who went to spy out the land, only seeing the size of the
obstacle and your own weakness? Too often, we see our obstacles as giants and
ourselves as mere grasshoppers, helpless to do anything. We give up, thinking
that there's no way we can possibly overcome.
Caleb and the
other men saw the same things. They all saw the walled cities and the giants.
The difference was their perspective. While
the other men saw themselves as weak, Caleb saw the Israelites as strong, not in
themselves, but in God. With God, they could overcome any obstacle.
Are you feeling
like a grasshopper fighting giants? Trust in God and overcome. -

The Blame-It-On-Someone-Else Method
One day when my son Scott was two
years old, I heard him crying. I
went into his room and my daughter Hannah, who was four, was there also.
A plastic bat was lying on the floor.
"What happened to Scott?" I asked.
Hannah answered, "He hit his head."
"On what?"
She pointed toward the bat on the floor and said, "The bat."
"Where was the bat?"
She said, "In my hand."
We learn the Blame-It-On-Someone-Else Method at
such an early age. (Kent Crockett, The 911 Handbook,

SPIRITUAL COMPANIONS
Even though
Elijah experienced great victory on
Mount Carmel
, he was then overcome with fear and loneliness. We saw how God provided
comfort by first sending an angel and then through the gentle whisper of His
presence (1 Kings 19:5-13). But Elijah clearly revealed some long term
spiritual needs which could not be ignored.
1 Kings 19:14 “And he said, I have
been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the
sword; and I, even I only, am
left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
Elijah felt alone in his devotion to God and alone in his ministry.
This loneliness was affecting his judgment as well as his ability to persevere
under stress. He needed a spiritual companion who would encourage him and
walk by his side. God recognized this need and sent him Elisha. 1 Kings
19:16 “…and Elisha the
son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.” Elijah was not being replaced; but since he had many
"opportunities" for future discouragement, God provided someone to
share the burden, provide motivation, and be trained for future service.
Elisha was in the
field plowing with a team of oxen when Elijah first called him to follow.
Elisha's response was immediate and decisive, and he was devoted to Elijah for
the remainder of his ministry.
1 Kings 19:21 “And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them,
and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the
people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered
unto him.”
God never
intended for us to go into battle alone. While He is always at our side,
ready to intervene, His Word also directs us to draw upon the strength of
others; Hebrews 3:13 “But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you
be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”
Immediately after creating the first man, Genesis 2:18 “…the LORD God said, It is
not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
We were created to be people who need
one another; Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two
are better than one; because
they have a good reward for their labour. For
if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that
is alone when he falleth; for he
hath not another to help him up.”
Jesus demonstrated this wisdom as He sent messengers to proclaim that the
Kingdom
of
God
is near; Luke 10:1 “After these things the Lord appointed other
seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and
place, whither he himself would come.” Difficult
tasks require mutual support and encouragement.
As we travel down
God's path, let's listen to His counsel and not walk alone. Let's entrust
our lives to our Heavenly Father and seek other believers who will encourage us
to remain in His presence and aligned with His perfect will. Let's pray
that God would bless us with courage and strength...and also with an abundance
of committed spiritual companions. - Steve Troxel - God's Daily Word Ministries

FOOTSTOOL
OF GOD’S THRONE
"And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with
thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be
dismayed." Deuteronomy 31:8 "The
LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength
of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
When
your heart is heavy laden And you feel so all alone.
There's a place you will find comfort At the footstool of God's Throne.
It's
there you place your worries, All your doubts and many fears,
On bended knee, just pour it out In Jesus' Name, God hears.
"Come unto
Me . . . I'll give you rest" Is our Lord's invitation;
Just take His yoke upon you For a rested soul sensation.
Cast all your
burdens at His feet, The footstool of God's Throne;
Remembering Jesus' precious words, You'll never be alone. -

DON’T
WE ALL?
i was parked in front of the mall wiping off my
car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of
work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider
a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no
money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you
just don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "I don't want to be
bothered times."
"I hope he
doesn't ask me for any money," I thought. He didn't. He came and sat on the
curb in front of the bus stop but he didn't look like he had enough money to
even ride the bus.
After a few
minutes he spoke. "That's a very pretty car," he said. He was ragged
but he had an air of dignity around him. His scraggly blond beard kept more than
his face warm.
I said,
"Thanks," and continued wiping off my car. He sat there quietly as I
worked. The expected plea for money never came. As the silence between us
widened something inside said, "Ask him if he needs any help." I was
sure that he would say "yes" but I held true to the inner voice.
"Do you need any help?" I asked.
He answered in
three simple but profound words that I shall never forget. We often look for
wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from those of higher learning and
accomplishments. I expected nothing but an outstretched grimy hand. He spoke the
three words that shook me. "Don't we all?" he said.
I was feeling
high and mighty, successful and important, above a bum in the street, until
those three words hit me like a twelve gauge shotgun. Don't we all? I needed
help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I needed help. I reached
in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare, but enough to get a warm
meal and shelter for the day. Those three little words still ring true. - www.christianlifestories.com/stories/a-e/dontweall.html

The
Pessimist Who Found Money
A pessimistic man spotted some money crumpled up
on the ground. He picked it up, unwadded it, and discovered it was a $1 bill.
"That's just my luck," the man complained. "If someone else had
found this, it would have been a $5 bill!" Complainers look at the negative
side of every situation. They don't give thanks for what they have, but gripe
because it's not more. Are you thankful, or a complainer? Kent Crockett's Sermon

THE MASTER’S HAND
I was having trouble. It was a few weeks into the term in my pottery
class and I still wasn't able to create a decent piece of work using the
potter's wheel. I was getting tense about it. Most of my classmates had by now
managed the skill of throwing on the wheel and were producing perfect cylinders.
My cylinders were not working. Either I tried to bring them up too quickly and
their walls grew too thin, or a jerk of my hand would put them off centre and a
wild wobble would result in nothing more than a pile of goo.
Every time my instructor
walked by I got more nervous and tried harder. The harder I tried the more I
failed.
Then one day my instructor
came up behind me as I was attempting to centre the lump of clay. He was a big
man with huge hands and he towered over me. I looked up, ashamed of my
incompetence, but instead of a scowl, I saw him smile. "Relax," he
said. "Trying too hard just causes more failure." He put his large
hands on my shoulders and kneaded my tense muscles. "Now, take a deep
breath and try again," he said.
I positioned my hands on the
clay but the lump continued to wobble. I slumped back on the chair and looked up
again. "Will you show me?" I asked. My instructor nodded and told me
to try again, then leaned over me and placed his hands over mine, guiding them
gently until the lump was spinning at perfect centre. When our thumbs pushed
down into the centre the lump gave way and formed a perfect donut shape. Then he
took his hands away. "Gently," he said, and stood back as I slowly
drew the walls of the cylinder up. He laughed with delight when I clapped my
hands at the finished product
I've thought about that day
many times over the years, when I've become stressed about one situation or
another. Too often I allow myself to get tied up in knots over something,
forgetting that God is standing with me, waiting to guide me, waiting to give me
the peace that seems so elusive. Then I remember my pottery instructor's large
skilled hands and I remember to ask for God's help.
It comforts me to know that
even Jesus' disciples sometimes failed to understand that when they are with
Jesus there is no need to worry. The day they sailed across the
Sea of Galilee
, for instance. The wind began to rage and it looked like their boat would sink.
Jesus was sleeping through it all until they woke Him. He quickly calmed the
storm and said, "Where is your faith?" (Luke 8:25). Their response was
to wonder, "Who is this?" That is the perfect response. When we see
the hand of God move it is fitting to ponder who He is, to recognize His power
and sovereignty and to relax in it. Perhaps the next time we will be a little
slower to get stressed and a little quicker to ask, "Will you show
me?"...Marcia Lee Laycock (Marcia@vinemarc.com)

DEALING
WITH SETBACKS
After William Carey, the Father of Modern Missions was well
established in his pioneer missionary work in
India
, his supporters in
England
sent a printer to assist him. Soon the two men were turning out portions of the
Bible for distribution. Carey had spent many years learning the language so that
he could produce the scriptures in the local dialect. He had also prepared
dictionaries and grammars for the use of his successors. One day while Carey was
away, a fire broke out and completely destroyed the building, the presses, many
Bibles, and the precious manuscripts, dictionaries, and grammars. When he
returned and was told of the tragic loss, he showed no sign of despair or
impatience. Instead, he knelt and thanked God that he still had the strength to
do the work over again. He started immediately, not wasting a moment in
self-pity. Before his death, he had duplicated and even improved on his earlier
achievements. – www.creativeyouthideas.com

Proverbs 25:13 As
the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so
is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul
of his masters.

IF THE LORD BE GOD, FOLLOW HIM
Soon after entering the promised
land of Canaan, the children of Israel forgot about God and all He had done.
They soon began to worship the false gods of Baal and the love-goddess, Asherah.
It seemed like every generation from that time forward was tempted into
worshipping these false gods.
About five
hundred years later, God rose up Elijah to be His chosen spokesman - His
prophet. The Israelites were still being enticed to worship other gods,
and the time had come for a direct confrontation between Elijah and the many
false prophets of Baal: 1 Kings 18:19 “Now
therefore send, and gather to me
all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty,
and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.”
Elijah and the
false prophets were to pray to their respective gods, with the
"winner" determined by how the prayers were answered: 1 Kings 18:24 “And
call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and
the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and
said, It is well spoken.” But prior to calling on the Lord, Elijah gave a
challenge for the people of
Israel
to make a commitment.
1 Kings 18:21 “
How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be
God, follow him: but if Baal, then
follow him. And the people answered him not a word.”
Elijah prayed,
and God answered with enough fire to remove any and all doubt. 1 Kings
18:39 “And
when all the people saw it, they
fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is
the God.”
We face the
same challenge today. However, instead of two or three choices, we now
have many gods which continually entice us into worship - many gods who desire
our time and energy. The world offers a long list of "worthy"
candidates - television, money, power, prestige, sex, drugs, food, sports,
internet, education...the list goes on; Jeremiah 10:11 “Thus shall ye say unto
them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even
they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.” Who (or
what) is truly worthy of our worship?
The challenge
today is simple. If the Lord is God - follow Him. If we have
recognized our sinful condition, repented of our sin and asked Jesus to be our
Savior, then we must continue by being transformed into His likeness - we must
follow Him. We cannot allow the "distractions" in life to become
our god. We must devote our heart, soul, mind and strength to loving our
Heavenly Father, and commit ourselves to whatever tasks He has given us to
accomplish. Our choice is clear, and our response must be boldly decisive.
The Lord is God - Follow Him! -

LEGALISM OR LOVE? There was
once a married couple who didn’t love each other. The day they got married,
the husband handed his wife a list of chores for her to follow. He insisted that
she do all the tasks on her list every day. The wife worked hard to accomplish
her assigned duties, but she was miserable as she performed them. Ironing his
clothes, preparing his meals, cleaning house—every task was burdensome.
Although she obeyed all his rules, she never enjoyed a loving relationship with
her husband.
Then one day her husband
died. After several years had passed, she fell in love with another man and got
married. The new husband never required her to do anything, much less a list of
jobs. Instead, he showered her with love and did everything he could to make her
happy.
One day this wife was
joyfully cleaning house when she discovered her first husband’s list of
commands tucked away in a drawer. As she read the paper, it dawned on her that
she was performing every task on the list, but now she was serving with joy
instead of misery. Her love for her second husband inspired her to automatically
do the same jobs that her first husband had required. She had served her first
husband out of duty, but her second husband out of love.
God wants us to
serve Him out of jubilation, not obligation. Legalism adds weights to our work,
but love gives wings to our service. (Kent Crockett, Making
Today Count for Eternity, Sisters, OR: Multnomah Publishers, 2001, pp.
159-160)

EVEN
WHEN WE HAVE SPOILED GOD’S PLAN, HE HAS ANOTHER WAITING FOR US!
If you have run ahead of God
and produced an Ishmael or two (who hasn’t?), sooner or later your fleshly
provision will clash with your spiritual destiny and Ishmael will have to go.
This can be painful, but it’s absolutely necessary … and it’s for the
ultimate good! Lamentations 3:22-24 “It
is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail
not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my
portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”
This proved
true in the life of one of history’s great composers. He was a has-been, a
fossil, a relic, an old fogy, but it hadn’t always been so. As a young man,
George Frederic Handel was the talk of
England
, the best paid composer on earth, and his fame soared around the world. But the
glory passed, audiences dwindled, and one project after another failed. Handel
grew depressed. The stress brought on a case of palsy that crippled some of his
fingers. “Handel’s great days are over,” wrote
Frederick
the Great, “his inspiration is exhausted.”
Yet his troubles
also matured him, and his music became more heartfelt. One morning Handel
received a collection of various biblical text from Charles Jennens. The opening
words from Isaiah 40 moved Handel: “Comfort ye my people.”
On August 22,
1741, he began composing music for the words. Twenty-three days later, the world
had “Messiah,” which opened in
London
to enormous crowds on
March 23, 1743
. Handel led from his harpsichord, and King George II, who was present that
night, surprised everyone by leaping to his feet during the “Hallelujah
Chorus.” From that day audiences everywhere have stood in reverence during the
stirring words: “Hallelujah! And He shall reign forever and ever.”
The world would
be a poorer place if Handel had not let God get rid of his Ishmaels and bring
his Isaac into the world! – Unknown

GOD
WILL ALWAYS DIRECT US
"
. . . The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
James 5:16
The reign of David was the
end of an era in
Judah
. David was 30 years of age when he became king and he reigned 40 years.
His shoes were so big that none who came after him could ever fill them.
As great as Solomon
was, he never attained the stature of his father David, spiritually speaking.
In Acts 13:36, Paul tells us that David served his own generation by the
will of God.
David's dream was to
build a house for the Lord. In
1Samuel 7:1-3, David experienced a peaceful interlude, a calm, quiet period in
his life, which for him was really unique. He
was a courageous warrior, usually involved in battle with one or another of the
surrounding nations. At this point, while sitting quietly, he looked around at
his own beautiful place and compared it to the tent that housed the ark of God.
The comparison sorrowed David. He
wanted to build a beautiful, permanent home for the holy vessels of the
Tabernacle. His motive was pure and
admirable because he wanted it for God's glory, not his own.
He expressed this desire to Nathan the prophet, who encouraged him.
But God had a different
plan. The Lord spoke to Nathan and
told him to tell David that it was not His will for David to build His house,
but He promised to make David's dream come true through Solomon, his son.
God refused David's
request, reminding him that he was a soldier, a man of war, but not a builder.
How often we have wished for talents other than those God gave us. Many
times, God's "NO" is just a redirection of His plan for us according
to His will.
When we pray each day
for divine guidance and direction, we need feel no guilt when our plans do not
work out. We can have confidence that God's way is best and we can leave the
results in His hand. When God says
"NO", He has a better way, and our best reaction is submissive
cooperation. God has put each of us here for a purpose, however humble. Not many
are called to fulfill such a great purpose as David, or to build temples.
God's intended
purpose for you may not be as great as your dreams, or it may be greater than
you ever imagined. How sad that so
many never become aware of that purpose which is the only way to true happiness
and satisfaction.
May we never
neglect the privilege of prayer that God has given to each of us to seek His
will in our lives today.
Without the
lifeline of prayer, we grow spiritually weak. – jcshrimp1.com/insp

THE POWER OF ONE
John 15:8 “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall
ye be my disciples.”
"John Warr,
an 18th-century apprentice shoemaker, was determined to be a faithful witness
for Christ. Another apprentice by the name of William was hired, and John
repeatedly talked to him about spiritual things, but the new worker didn't want
to be bothered. Then one day he was caught exchanging a counterfeit shilling for
a good one. In his guilt and humiliation he asked John for help and prayer.
Through the faithful witness of John Warr, that man put his faith in Christ and
developed into a committed disciple.
“The young
apprentice was William Carey, who later became a remarkably fruitful missionary
to
India
. Carey's life and ministry had a tremendous influence on the cause of worldwide
gospel outreach in modern times.” – Our
Daily Bread, June 7, 1996
Some of us get
discouraged because we don't feel that we are very gifted and don't have a lot
to offer God in service to him. John Warr could have said to himself, "I'm
just a shoemaker and don't have much to offer God." But he didn't. He just
wanted God to use him and made himself available.
It's amazing what
God can and will do with anyone who will make him/herself available to God. And
if you do make yourself available to God, you may never know until you get to
eternity just how God used you to touch the life of others for eternity.
As blind Helen
Keller said, "I am only one, but still I am one; I cannot do everything,
but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do the something I can
do."
And as the unknown author said:
One SONG can spark a moment,
One FLOWER can wake the dream,
One TREE can start a forest,
One BIRD can herald spring,
One SMILE begins a friendship,
One HANDCLASP lifts a soul,
One STAR can guide a ship at sea,
One WORD can frame the goal,
One VOTE can change a nation,
One SUNBEAM lights a room,
One CANDLE wipes out darkness,
One LAUGH will conquer gloom,
One STEP must start each journey,
One WORD must start a prayer,
One HOPE will raise our spirits,
One TOUCH can show you care,
One VOICE can speak with wisdom,
One HEART can know what is true,
One LIFE can make a difference.
May that life be yours.

ON
HEROES AND REALITY
The twelve-year-old boy
papered his bedroom walls with sports clippings of his favorite sports hero. Then at age 14, much to his delight, he
actually got to meet him. To his
astonishment, and beyond his wildest dreams, this was not a one-time
opportunity. His hero took him under his wing and spent quite a bit of time
with him. They loved to go fishing
together. However, after awhile, the boy began to
notice that the more time they spent together, the more he saw the
difference between the image and the actual man. Upon closer inspection, he
learned that his hero was not all
that he thought him to be.
In fact, years
later, as he spoke to an audience of how he got a closer and closer look at the
man he once idolized, he confessed, "And the nearer I got, the smaller he
became." He went on to say to that same audience, "Then I learned
about Jesus, and have spent the last thirty-five years drawing closer to Him.
And you know what I have
discovered? I find that the nearer I get, the bigger He becomes!

SIN
SEPARATES "BEHOLD,
the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy
that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your
God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." Isaiah 59:1, 2
Sin is like a
giant canyon, with a person on one side and God on the other.
A canyon can never be removed, it will always be there.
And it is useless to try to fill up one. But when a bridge is put across a
canyon, one can cross it as if no canyon ever existed there. Forgiveness of our
sin is like a bridge. A bridge
allows us to have eternal life, even though there is sin which otherwise would
separate us from God.
Sin is also like
a cut or break in an electric wire. There
must be a perfect connection from the source to a light bulb before there can be
any light in the bulb. Sin separates
our connection with God. Forgiveness is like a splice in a wire.
Sin separates man and God. And there is only one way back to Him . .
.through Jesus Christ!
And then . . ." . . . Go and sin no more!" – www.jcshrimp1.com/insp

RUNNING
AHEAD OF GOD
If you have run ahead of God and produced an Ishmael or two (who
hasn’t?), sooner or later your fleshly provision will clash with your
spiritual destiny and Ishmael will have to go. This can be painful, but it’s
absolutely necessary … and it’s for the ultimate good! EVEN WHEN WE HAVE
SPOILED GOD’S PLAN, HE HAS ANOTHER WAITING FOR US!

THE GIFT OF THE WISEMEN
Not only did the star lead the Magi far from home but the star didn’t
stop where they expected it to stop. They watched the star trailing across the
territory
of
Israel
as it moved toward
Jerusalem
. (
Bethlehem
is, of course, near
Jerusalem
. Today, it is considered a suburb of
Jerusalem
.) The Magi assumed as the star approached
Jerusalem
that the birth of such an important personage would have to have taken place in
the palace. So they went to the
palace
of
Herod
. But Herod knew nothing about the blessed event. They arrived on the doorstep
and asked, “Where is he that is born King of the Jews? We have seen his star
in the east and have come to worship Him.”
Herod was
dumbfounded! Royalty knew nothing about this great event. There were no flags
flying, no music, no celebration, no festivity. Herod in perplexity and despair
recalled his own wise men and inquired of them where the Christ child would be
born. They searched their sacred writings and informed Herod, ‘in Bethlehem of
Judea’. For thus, it is written in the prophets: ‘Thou
Bethlehem
, in the
land
of
Judea
, are not thou great among the tribes of
Judea
? For unto you who will be born a son, the Savior of the world.’
Then they come
to the house where the child Jesus is and the wise men see the Messiah. Some
scholars say it could have been a year after the birth of Christ. We read in
scripture that, “they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their
treasures and presented him with gifts...” of precious gold, frankincense and
myrrh.
Medieval
theologians suggested that gold is a gift for royalty, frankincense a gift for
deity, and myrrh a gift for death. They postulated that these were gifts for a
King, a King who was God, and a God who would die. The reality is that they were
probably the most costly things that they could get from their country. They
brought that which cost them something. You remember David once said, “I will
never offer to God that which costs me nothing.” So they offered the most
costly things they could. But the greatest gift they gave was not the gold,
frankincense or myrrh. The greatest gift that they gave the Christ child was the
gift of true worship. That’s the greatest gift anyone can give Him.
It was there in
that house that they yielded their lives to one who was greater than they were.
They adored the child and gave the gifts that they had carried all the way from
their homes in the east. When they returned home they were empty-handed but were
full hearted because of the worship from the heart. The treasures they gave the
child were worth little compared to the value and fulfillment they had in their
hearts in worship. They had worshipped the King of the Jews.
The heart that
can worship the Lord gives our entire lives a sense of fulfillment and meaning.
Worship makes us whole because it meets the need of our inner being, our soul,
our very core. God is worshipped, adored, and given honor. He is the one who
created us and to respond to God in love makes life large and whole. Without
worship of God we put ourselves in the center of our lives and we end up giving
greater emphasis to ourselves.
Worship is a
way to maintain perspective in the midst of life’s pressing demands. Most of
us live our lives according to the “priority of the urgent”. We run from
urgent demand to urgent demand. The problem is that we neglect that which is
important. When the magi came face to face with the Christ child, the only thing
that became urgent was ‘to worship him.’ They did not look to themselves.
They did not
lift themselves up, but lowered themselves, bowing down in worship. If we take
time to see the baby at all this Christmas, worship will not only be
appropriate, it will be a necessity. Worship is a natural and appropriate
response to the goodness and greatness of God. To worship means to pay tribute
to, to honor, to revere God. When one comprehends God, truly sees him, it is the
only appropriate response.

MIGHTY
GOD
Psalms 17:6-8 “I
have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and
hear my speech. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by
thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up
against them. Keep me as the
apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.”
From the poetry
of David we have a rich heritage that leads us to some of the most effective
ways to worship God. The striking
truth found in the life of David and particularly in this psalm is not that
David was simply a powerful or righteous man; the striking truth is that a man
so powerful and so righteous needed a Savior. David cries out to God, "Show
me the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take
refuge in you from their foes." David, a man of power and righteousness,
needed a Savior. So it is with all men. For if the mighty need a Savior, how
much more those of us who are only average or even weak.
While
constantly being pursued by his enemies David learned a very important lesson.
The issue is not the ability or the inability of a man to save himself. The
issue is the enormity of the predicament that he is in. No man can hope to win a
battle in which the odds are stacked against him. His only hope is in God. In
such a situation it is God alone who saves.
And the same is
true for each of us. The issue is not our ability or inability to save ourselves
but the enormity of the predicament that we face. Thanks be to God that our
predicament has been matched by one who would be called "Mighty God"
and He is Jesus Christ our Savior. All men, no matter how powerful and
righteous, need a Savior, and all men, no matter how weak and wicked have a
Savior. Take a few moments to thank Jesus Christ, the Mighty God for what He's
done for you. – Ken Sapp – www.creativeyouthideas.com

The King of glory, the Lord Jesus Christ, gave
himself to you and me. The Bible calls Him, "the unspeakable gift!" 2
Corinthians 9:15 “Thanks
be unto God for his unspeakable
gift.”

CHRISTMAS IS COSTLY!
Luke 14:28 "For
which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth
the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?"
Shoppers still abound in stores everywhere looking for those certain
special gifts! Why is it that people
spend so much money
buying and charging, only to pay back later? I think Jesus somewhat asks us the
same question in Luke 14 when He speaks to us about "Counting the
Cost".
And then it
reminds me how costly Christmas really was over 2000 years ago.
It cost Mary and
Joseph the comforts of home during a long period of exile in
Egypt
to protect the little Baby Jesus.
It cost mothers
in and around
Bethlehem
the massacre of their babies by the cruel order of Herod.
It costs the
shepherds the complacency of their shepherds' life, with the call to the manger
and to spread the good news.
It cost the wise
men a long journey, expensive gifts, and changed lives.
It cost the early
apostles and the early church persecution and often death.
It still costs
the missionaries of Christ untold suffering and privation in sharing the gospel
world-wide. And it still costs Christian martyrs in all ages their lives for
Christ's sake.
But more than all
of this, It cost our God His own Son! He
sent Him to earth to save us!
It cost Jesus a
life of sacrifice and service, and a death cruel and unmatched in history.
So, my dear
friends out there, while you sit back and consider the "cost" of your
Christmas this year, may you be ever-mindful of the "cost" so
"costly" paid by our wonderful Lord! Then . . . give
"Thanks!" For He freely gave of Himself for us. And this, my friend,
didn't "cost" us a cent! – Adapted from jcshrimp1.com/insp

THE STAR
The day of the Christmas
presentation finally arrived. My young daughter, Jana, was so excited about her
part that I thought she was to be one of the main characters, though she had not
told me what she was to do. The parents were all there and one by one the
children took their places. I could see the shepherds fidgeting in the corner of
the stage meant to represent the fields for the sheep. Mary and Joseph stood
solemnly behind the manger. In the back three young wise men waited impatiently.
But still Jana sat quietly and confidently.
Then the teacher began:
"A long time ago, Mary and Joseph had a baby and they named Him
Jesus," she said. "And when Jesus was born, a bright star appeared
over the stable."
At that cue, Jana got up
from her chair, picked up a large tin-foil star, walked behind Mary and Joseph
and held the star up high for everyone to see.
When the teacher told about
the shepherds coming to see the baby, the three young shepherds came forward and
Jana jiggled the star up and down excitedly to show them where to come. When the
wise men responded to their cue, she went forward a little to meet them and to
lead the way, her face as alight as the real star might have been.
The playlet ended. We had
refreshments. On the way home Jana said, with great satisfaction, "I had
the main part!"
"You did?" I
questioned, wondering why she thought that.
"Yes," she said,
"'cause I showed everybody how to find Jesus!"

THEY
FOLLOWED THE STAR
God set in the sky a
marvelous star. Astronomers have discussed for many centuries what the star must
have been. Some have suggested that it was a conjunction between Jupiter and
Saturn. Others have said that it is a reference to an evanescent star found in
Chinese literature. Others believe it might have been a comet, or a supernova.
But whatever it was, it was
something new. It was something unusual. It was something surprising. It was
something different. It was something unique that prompted the attention of the
wise men. They were compelled by a sense of needing to understand. But their
journey was more than the satisfaction of curiosity, the seeking of knowledge.
Scripture says that when they were asked about their journey, they said they
were in search of a King of the Jews so that they might worship him.
The star led them a long way
from home. For these ancients it was not an endearing thing to leave home,
family and friends and go beyond the borders of one’s own country into a
different territory altogether. Yet, this star drove them across their borders.
Every step took them farther and farther away from the security of home and
everything that was dear to them. Their adventure was to find this person born
to transform humankind and change the course of human history.
The road may have been
difficult, but the end was certain. You see, God doesn’t call a person on an
adventure in vain. These Magi discovered a little baby, and in discovering the
baby, they discovered Christmas - not in a palace, in a synagogue, not in a
mansion. Though Christ had been born in a cattle shed, the wise men knew Jesus
for who He was. They understood this child was special. This discovery was one
to which they were prepared to respond.
The journey that God has for
each of us may be different, but the goal is the same: That we might find a King
to rule our lives and to worship Him. Our journey might take us far from that
which is comfortable or familiar. But when we find Him we will be transformed
and our lives will be changed. Will you respond? – Ken Sapp, www.creativeyouthideas.com

LIFESTYLE EVANGELISM
I am not to win people by
lifestyle evangelism—being good around people and hoping they will see how
good I am, then come and ask me how to get saved when they don’t even know
what being saved is! We are not to win them by our lifestyles, but our
lifestyles ought to be factors that they can look at after they hear the Gospel
and say, “Wow! His life measures up to his lip.”
Our lifestyles do not win
them; the Gospel of Jesus Christ wins
them.
The Word of God wins them—not our goodness, not our
lifestyles,
but the Gospel, the Word of God; and we have to be ready
and
willing to give it to them. —George Alquist - Sent by Mary Sutherland – Monday Fodder

ARE YOU STARTING TO
FORGET?
There's a beautiful
story about a little boy who couldn't wait for his new baby sister to come home
from the hospital. He couldn't wait to be near her, to talk to
her.
But his parents didn't want him to be left alone with her. After all he was only
four years old, so they wanted to supervise his visits. He kept begging to be
alone with her, so one night his parents finally relented. The boy tiptoed into
her room, stood next to his sister's crib and said: "Tell me about God--I'm
starting to forget."
There are
times when we as adults get so caught up in the "rat race" and all of
our responsibilities. Perhaps we need to go to the children around us and say,
"Tell me about God--I'm starting to forget." - From Alan Smith,
"Thought for the Day" http://www.tftd-online.com
– Cited on Weekend Encounter, by Dick Innes

"The
LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble;and he knoweth them that trust
in him." Nahum 1:7
I'll never forget the day I looked out of our living room window and saw
Mark, our youngest, walking home from school in the driving rain.
Mark was in the
third grade, and he was allowed to ride his bike to his grade school, located
right within our sub-division. I happened to be home from the church early that
day, and I was sitting in an easy chair by the window.I looked outside at the
pouring rain and saw my boy in the distance, trudging his way through the
downpour. His clothing was absolutely drenched and his hair was plastered
against his head. I opened the door for him, and he looked up at me with a
little smile, his face red from the cold.
"Hi,
Dad!" he said. "You're home early."
"Hi,
Son," I replied. "You're soaked to the bone."
"Yeah, I
know."
"Umm, Mark,
you know, if you'd ride your bike you'd get home faster. You wouldn't get so
wet."
He looked at me
rather sheepishly as rivulets of rain streamed from his hair down across his
face. "I know, Dad."
I was puzzled.
"Well, Son, if you know, why in the world didn't you do it?"
Then he hung his
head, just a bit, and it hit me. Boy,
did I feel like crawling under a table and hiding for a while.
He had told me several times before that his bike had a flat tire.
He had asked me if I could please fix it for him. I had promised I would,
but never did. I had forgotten all about it.
As he stood there
in the entryway, dripping and shivering, he could have said, "I couldn't
ride my bike today because someone promised
me he'd fix it and never did." He
would have had every right to say that. But he didn't.
What he did say remains printed indelibly on this dad's heart.
"Aw, Dad, I
know how busy you are and everything, and I just didn't want to bother you with
it again."
I thought, Son,
your dad isn't too busy; he's just too selfish. For me, a bike tire was no big
deal ~ just one more thing on a long "to do" list. But for Mark, it
meant more than transportation. It meant more than a long walk home in the
pouring down rain. It meant trusting
his father to meet his every need. (Author

After reading
this little story, I started thinking about the promises we make to others along
the way. Our days become hectic at times, with so many things pressing us to
deal with. And our "promises" made to our trusting friends and loved
ones diminish.
Then I thought about our Heavenly Father and His promises to us.
He doesn't get side-tracked or put us on "hold."
He is faithful
and just, and His promises are sure, not to mention, on time!! We should be
thankful for the promises of God!

OUR
DAY OF THANKSGIVING
1 Chronicles 16:8-10 “Give
thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the
LORD.”
Our
thanksgiving time starts many days before we really think much about what is
going on. The turkey farmer has to start to get the birds fat and ready and the
hog farmer has to get the pork ready so the hams are just right and all the
other things are being readied so that we can have a great big feast and then
lay back and rest and never think twice about what it all really means.
Long ago our
forefathers were thanking the one who had kept them alive in a new world but we
today take it all for granted that there will be a great meal and wonderful time
spent with family and friends. Never a thought of how it might be for us with
just a few minor changes.
What if you had
been born in a third world country to some poor family that had little more that
a little bread or a bowl of rice and maybe if you’re lucky a fish of a small
animal of some kind to eat.
What if you had
only rags to wear and no shoes on your feet and maybe just a mud hut to call
your home. Could you be thankful
with so little?
I know that all
who read this today has more than this, but do you truly feel thankful to your
Father God for the greatness of things that you do have?
Will you? “Give
thanks unto the LORD.”
Will
you? “call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people”.?
Will
you? “Sing unto him, sing psalms
unto him.”
Will
you? “ talk ye of all his wondrous
works.”
Please “Glory ye in his holy
name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.”
I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and that you lift up
thanksgiving to our Lord. – jcshrimp1.com/insp

ADD
IT UP!
The young man was feeling
very proud of himself. As a brand new college graduate he had taken the C.P.A.
Exams and passed with flying colors. Now he was a full-fledged Certified Public
Accountant.
His father had
been an immigrant to the
U.S.
, and now owned his own little business. Filled with self-importance, the young
man began to criticize his father’s way of keeping books. He said, “Dad, you
don’t even know how much profit you’ve made. Over here in this drawer are
your accounts receivable. Over there are your receipts and you keep all your
money in the cash register. You don’t have any idea how much money you’ve
made.”
The father
answered, “Son, when I came to this country the only thing I owned was a pair
of pants. Now, your brother is a doctor, your sister is an art teacher, and you
are a C.P.A. Your mother and I own our home. We have a car and we own this
little business. Now add that up, subtract the pants and all the rest is
profit.”
ADD IT UP!
That’s exactly what we need to do at Thanksgiving. Add it all up. We came into
this world with nothing but the eternal soul that God gave us. Everything else
is profit. We can never give too much thanks to God!

GRATITUDE
unlocks the fullness of life. It
turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos
to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a
home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace
for today, and creates a vision for
tomorrow. -- Melody Beattie

THAT’S GRATITUDE
Several years ago some German immigrants to America told this story of
a woman living on a farm in Germany who brought to her minister an amount in
German money equivalent to about $10 in American money.
As she laid down
the money she said: “In former years I have had to pay about this amount in
medicine. This year there has been no sickness in our family. I want to show my
gratitude to the Lord in this way.”
Some time later
this same woman again came to her minister with about $5, explaining that many
of her neighbors had suffered some losses in a recent windstorm, but that her
farm had been spared. “I bring the church this donation as an offering of
thanks.” That’s gratitude!

TRUE WEALTH
"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man
that trusteth in him. O fear
the LORD, ye his saints: for
there is no want to them that fear him."Psalm 34:8,9
If we concentrate on always having it all, in light of what we have been
given to take care of, we will never be satisfied.
But when we find contentment in what has been given us, we will never
have to know want. God has given
graciously to all His children. May
we always be mindful that true wealth is not measured by what we own. It is
found through joy in having what God has placed in our lives.

GRATEFULNESS
A 12 year old boy named
David was born without an immune system. He underwent a bone marrow transplant
in order to correct the deficiency. Up to that point he had spent his entire
life in a plastic bubble in order to prevent exposure to common germs, bacteria,
and viruses that could kill him. He lived without ever knowing human contact.
When asked what he’d like to do if and when released from his protective
bubble, he replied, "I want to walk barefoot on grass, and touch my
mother’s hand."

every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have

IMMEASUREABLY MORE
Prayer
is a vitally important part of our Christian walk, but it's often greatly
misunderstood. Prayer is how we talk with our Heavenly Father. It
can never be used to manipulate God nor cause Him to do anything outside His
perfect will. God is not our magic genie who has to grant our wishes!
Our attitude
toward prayer reveals much about how we view God and the closeness of our
relationship through faith in Jesus. If we continually wait for a crisis
before we pray, we actually demonstrate a lack of love. A man may say he
loves his wife but if he only occasionally talks with her, he reveals a shallow
relationship. True love will always be reflected by a desire to spend time
together.
And
if we lift our problems to God in prayer but also give Him our expected
solutions, we demonstrate a lack of trust and reveal a misunderstanding of His
sovereign nature and limitless ability.
Ephesians 3:20 Now
unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all
that (immeasurably more than) we ask
or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
The consistent
message through all of scripture is that God is calling us to a closer
relationship - calling us to love Him with ALL our heart, soul, mind and
strength. Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love
the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy
mind, and with all thy strength: this is
the first commandment. Therefore, our prayers MUST begin from a position of
love. He wants us to continually know Him more and understand the true
meaning of Philippians 4:19 But my God
shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus,
and Matthew 19:26 With men this is
impossible; but with God all things are possible. He wants us to love
Him and trust Him to provide!
It's foolish for
us to limit God to our own understanding. He created the Universe and knew
the end of time before the beginning. He can, and will,
"perfectly" solve our problems. He is working all things
together for the good and using all situations to conform us to the likeness of
His Son. Romans 8:28-29 And we know that
all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the
called according to his purpose.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to
be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn
among many brethren.
Through a proper
attitude of prayer, we acknowledge and submit to God's sovereignty. We
praise Him because we know He is able to do much more than anything we ask, and
we submit because we know His understanding and purpose is perfect; Matthew 6:10
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in
earth, as it is in heaven.
Our prayer is not a matter of "working things out" with God - not of
wrestling until we obtain OUR solution - rather, prayer simply becomes
submission to His direction and trust in His plan.
We must present
ourselves as empty vessels and allow God to work through us each and every day.
Let's love Him enough to 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray
without ceasing. Let's make our requests known, but then let's submit
and humbly acknowledge that He can do immeasurably more. - Steve Troxel - God's
Daily Word
